A little background story – Est 2011
J & A Cleaning Services was originally founded in 2011 by Christina Hasegawa, now President of J & A Hill Country Cleaning Inc. At the time, Christina worked as a biller and coder in Monterey, California. After being laid off due to the economic downturn, Christina faced unexpected changes. Around the same time, her father-in-law was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Christina chose to take time off to care for him, a decision she holds dear, as he passed away just a few months later.
This was a devastating time for the family, and she, her husband, and their little babies were struck with grief; a beloved, humble, loving family man, a patriarch, had passed away. Christina took some time to heal and reflected deeply about life and all the events that had taken place so suddenly. She decided it was time to change her career and do something meaningful in a way that would help people, give her a flexible schedule, allow her to spend more time with her family, and make an honest living. Entrepreneurship and having a sustainable business was her dream. She also wanted to find ways to stimulate the economy and thought creating jobs in the recession was a healthy goal and something she could work toward.
Christina took stock of her skills and did extensive research. She discovered that the cleaning industry was a great fit. Initially, she planned to start as a sole proprietor, building her business from scratch. On July 11, 2011, J & A Cleaning Services officially launched. With just a credit card and a supply list, she purchased her first cleaning tools. Her first vacuum, a German-made Sebo, was even used in the White House—it served her well for many years. It saw many homes and had a good run!
By September, after moving from the Salinas Valley to the Bay Area, Christina was ready to fully launch her business. Her husband, Oscar Hasegawa Jr., left his job as a production assistant at a local news station to join her. Together, they built J & A Cleaning Services from the ground up.
Starting as a husband-and-wife team, they quickly gained momentum. Soon, they had a full schedule, working Monday through Friday and servicing up to six homes each day. Demand for J & A’s services grew so much that they needed to hire additional teams to keep up. At their peak, they even had a waiting list and occasionally had to turn down new clients to maintain high-quality service for their existing customers.
In 2022, ten years after creating J & A Cleaning Services, Christina and Oscar decided it was time for a change.
Oscar’s mother had recently moved to Texas with her husband, who had lived there for over 20 years. During a visit to see her in Spring Branch, Texas, Christina and Oscar fell in love with the area’s culture, community, and lifestyle.
They wanted a better life for their children and themselves, so they closed J & A Cleaning Services and moved to the Hill Country, settling in the Spring Branch/Bulverde area.

Seeing a need for quality cleaning services in their new community—and drawing on their years of experience—they founded J & A Hill Country Cleaning Inc.
Christina and Oscar are thrilled to be in Texas and look forward to making a positive impact in their community as a trusted San Antonio cleaning company.
